GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Hundreds of people brought out their competitive sides at Lincoln Park Sunday to see who could raise the most money for Mesa County Partners.

A total of 16 teams with around 230 people have been fundraising since January. The Partners Superstars fundraiser asked for the teams to pay an entry fee of $1,000 for the fundraiser, followed by a celebratory barbecue afterward. Each team that raised more than $1,000 got bonus points.

The event included athletic activities such as a military obstacle course as well as volleyball and swimming events. The winning team received prizes.

Officials say since January, the 16 teams combined raised around $49,000 for Partners.

Even with this money raised, officials say they're always looking for more volunteers. "We always need more mentors; we have about 100 children who are on our waiting list, so we always encourage people to think about becoming a senior partner or a mentor. We have children ages 7 to 17 who just need a friend, an advocate and positive role model in their life," said Joe Higgins, director of Mesa County Partners.

City Market and American National Bank helped sponsor the fundraiser.
