Mesa County Online Tax Lien Auction Begins

MESA COUNTY, Colo.- Mesa County's online tax lien auction started Thursday.

The online auction gives an opportunity for anyone interested to invest money by paying property taxes that have not been paid.

The investors will then receive 10 percent interest when the taxes are finally paid off by the original property owner.

"To get the property taxes paid, of course it's a good thing for Mesa County because we distribute those property taxes to the cities, the school districts and all the special districts, so it helps everyone in Mesa County. For the investor, it allows them an opportunity to get a return on their investment," said Janice Rich, Mesa County treasurer.

If you're interested in purchasing a tax lien, you can register for the auction at www.MesaTaxSale.com.

There are commercial, residential and vacant lots being offered.

The prices range from around $30 to more than $100,000.

If the property taxes and interest are not paid off by the original property owner in three years, the investors have the option of acquiring the property themselves.
