GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Mesa County Libraries came a little bit closer to meeting their funding goal Monday with a donation from the Western Colorado Atheists and Freethinkers.
The group presented a $1,000 check to the Mesa County Public Library for the Central Library Project, which is now just $7,000 shy of their $1.25 million goal.
WCAF says libraries are a tremendous asset to communities as they foster learning and expose the public to world views. The group hopes Grand Valley residents will keep an open mind with them as well.
"We are here to show people that we are an integral part of the community. We're really good people. We really care. We care about the environment; we care about politics; we care about respect for all human beings," explained Anne Landman, board member at large with WCAF.
Officials say WCAF currently has about 150 members. Many pooled their funds over several months in order to make Monday's donation.
