MESA COUNTY, Colo.- Foreclosures in Colorado hit a six-year low in July. However, Mesa County has the highest rate of foreclosure sales in the state.

The Colorado Division of Housing reports that when comparing the first seven months of this year to last year, Mesa County has seen a 22.5 percent increase in foreclosure filings.

Weld County reported the largest decline in foreclosure filings, with a 9.5 percent drop.

Officials say one reason Mesa County continues lag in recovery is because of unemployment in the area.

Amy Case, supervisor of the Grand Junction Housing Authority, said, "As we hopefully see some improvement in our economic situation related to unemployment in Mesa County, we hopefully then hope to see some reduced numbers of mortgage default and keeping more people get on their feet with their mortgage lender."

Mesa County had the highest rate of foreclosure sales in July. Adams County had the second highest. Boulder County had the lowest rate.
