MESA COUNTY, Colo. Officials are moving forward with the Mesa County Fairgrounds master plan, with construction set to begin in 2013.

On Monday, the Mesa County Commissioners adopted resolutions to approve two major grant applications for the project. If granted, the funds will be coming from GOCO, Great Outdoors Colorado, which are lottery funds.

Construction will first begin on the east portion of the plan, which officials say will be a big economic driver.

Jo Carole Haxel, Mesa County Fairgrounds manager, said, "When we have big horse shows, folks bring their trailers and all of their people stay for several days in our community and that's where they're spending money at our restaurants and hotels, and it just benefits everybody."

Fairgrounds officials will learn if they received the grants this June.

The east design plan will be completed this Spring, with construction beginning in the fall.
