GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - After students across Colorado took the TCAP standardized test, education officials compared the growth across the academic year.

Out of the top ten Colorado schools that saw the best growth, Scenic Elementary in School District 51 was ranked number four.

Schools were ranked per subject and Scenic Elementary excelled in math with a growth median of 81.5 percent which is more than 30 percent higher than the state's average.

"[We] just got that news today and real excited about that, that's a tribute to the students and the staff out there and the parents that support those kids and their learning," said Andy Laase, executive director of academic growths and achievement for School District 51.

District officials also say along with that dedication, they also attribute some of the success to the new uniform math curriculum the district has been implementing across all schools over the last four years.

This story is a good example of "press release journalism". Instead of providing facts, the "journalists" slightly reformat a press release that was handed to them. A more honest and professional organization would have a section for press releases, and just publish those things verbatim.

So the grammar school has changed the most, big deal. That's an almost totally meaningless measure. ("Almost" because if you're really bad, then you might be improving. At least improving faster than the other ones.)
