Mesa County Diversity Demographics Shows Slight Increase

MESA COUNTY, Colo. - On this Martin Luther King Jr. Day, many folks are reflecting on the civil rights leader's goal of increasing equality and diversity around the country.

Looking at the demographics for Mesa County, it seems diversity has increased, but only slightly.

Comparing the two most recent census results for Mesa County:

The percentage of Caucasians have increased more than 11% from 2010 to 94.5% in 2011.

The percentage of African Americans in Mesa County increased .4% to .9% in 2011.

The percentage of Asians increased .2% to .9% in 2011.

The percentage of Pacific Islanders stayed the same from 2010 to 2011 at .1%.

The percentage of people who identify with two or more races increased .6% to 2.1% in 2011.

The Hispanic population has increased .3% to 13.6% in 2011.

Your numbers are TOTALLY absurd. Mesa County is not anywhere close to being 94½% white. Look around you. Open your ears. You will see and hear Mexicans speaking Spanish. You need to hire some people who can use common sense and THINK.

I have a feeling hispanics are included in the "white" percentage.
