Mesa County Detention Center to Renovate

MESA COUNTY, Colo.- The Mesa County Detention Center is getting an estimated $1.5 to $2 million remodel. The renovations will be made to the current center at the Mesa County Sheriff's Office.

The project will include increasing the visitation booths from 10 to 30, which will make more efficient use of deputies' duties.

"Officers' time can be spent where it should be spent. The same two officers can oversee 30 inmates at a time in visitation instead of 10," explained Donna Ross, the regional services director for Mesa County.

In addition, two more holding cells will be added. This helps save the county money because more people waiting to post bond will stay out of the jail system.

Ross also says a new private pretrial interview room will help the county identify high risk inmates and gather sensitive information in a secured area.

These improvements are expected to begin by early 2013 and wrap up by that summer.
