Mesa County Commissioners Support Roan Plateau Drilling

MESA COUNTY, Colo.- Mesa County Commissioners are supporting Garfield County Commissioners, who've asked federal officials to move forward with a drilling plan for the Roan Plateau.

On Monday morning, Mesa County Commissioners approved a letter that supports the drilling efforts. They believe the drilling will be done responsibly and is environmentally friendly.

The drilling has been stalled because of a court ruling requiring further review of the land, a request by environment groups.

Mesa County Commissioner Craig Meis says Mesa County has a sizable stake in the drilling.

"With that comes jobs, comes capital investment
in the community. That activity certainly brings a significant amount of assess value to Mesa County, Garfield County, and Northwest Colorado, and to the state," Meis said.

Meis also explained that the issue has been ongoing for about six years. Commissioners hope their letter of support will help expedite the drilling.
