GRAND JUNCTION, Colo- After Mesa County's primary deadline, John Leane, an unaffiliated candidate for Mesa County Commissioner District 1, will present his ideas on the county's economy. Leane was a commissioner from 1989 to 1993.

He says his experience makes him more qualified than his opponents. "We were still suffering from Black Sunday. I know what it takes to cut budgets. We just had to. I mean, the check has to clear, and so you have to make decisions in order for that to happen. But, you have to keep in mind the long range impact of what we're doing short range," said Leane.

Leane is running unaffiliated because he says he believes the race should not be driven by politics, but by ideas. His two strongest platform issues are economic improvement and job growth.

Leane's economic development plan will be presented at the Old County Courthouse Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 12:30 p.m.
