Men in Heels Race for Latimer House

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Dozens of men traded in running shoes for high heels Thursday for a charity race for Latimer House, a local program that helps victims of domestic violence.

A dozen teams competed, with the Colorado Western Conservation team winning first place, WTX Energy winning second place and the Ace Hardware team winning third place.

However, the Ace Hardware team did win first in terms of fundraising the most money, with a total of $3,800.

All 12 teams combined raised $8,300 to put toward Latimer House.

Donations were collected during the race and are still being counted, but organizers say they anticipate raising $10,000 all together.

This was the first year the Farmers' Market hosted the run, and it happened to be the last one of the summer season.

"Our restaurants, of course, with the wonderful patio dining, are always full when we have events down here and the weather is nice, and many of the stores have lots of walk-in traffic. Certainly, people are window shopping, so it's a great boost to the downtown area and of course what's good for downtown is always good for the community," said Kathy Dirks of the Grand Junction Downtown Partnership.

Great job to all of the teams, and thank you for supporting such a worthy cause. Domestic Violence affects people of all classes, and the Latimer House provides a safe place for people to go when they need help.
