GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Colorado Mesa University hosted a marching band competition through the streets of downtown Grand Junction on Saturday.

Fourteen bands performed in the Colorado West Marching Invitational, followed by 13 bands performing their field show competitions at Stocker Stadium.

"I'm rooting for all of those bands. We were just talking about how important it is for these kids to be out there marching, and putting their time, effort, stamina and their finances into something like this. I'm so proud to be a part of it," said the mother of one of the musicians, Rowena Trembo.

The young musicians were critiqued by judges while learning key ways to improve for regional and state competitions.

The bands came from across Colorado.
