Man Loses Battle Against ALS, Wins Fight to Donate Van

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- On Monday evening, a fundraiser was held for a man whose disease might have immobilized him, but it definitely got the community moving.

Dan Keenan passed away on Monday, which was the same day the fundraiser was held.

He had suffered from ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

In the months before his death, Keenan's family had been raising money to help pay off a special van that helped him get around.

That van is now set to be donated to Greg Podgorny, another resident with ALS.

Before his death, Keenan said he wanted to have the van continuously passed down to others with the disease.

But, the family still has about $20,000 to pay off on the van in order to donate it.

Kannah Creek Brewing Company opened for the cause.

"One-hundred percent of the proceeds go to the family. The Firkin Keg has about 80 pints in it, and we sell them for $4 a pint. It's not an extravagant amount, but it's something to help them out," said Katlin Lubeley, the marketing and advertising director for Kannah Creek.

The restaurant helped the family earn about $320.

The fundraiser is ongoing.
