GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- A man accused of being the head of a major drug ring in Mesa County has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Federico Lerma pleaded guilty to three charges, including possession with intent to distribute and child abuse.

Officials say Lerma was a part of a group that ran a cocaine distribution ring; that group included 13 adults and one juvenile.

The Western Colorado Drug Task Force caught the group in February.

After an extensive investigation, officials found that Lerma was at the head of the drug distribution network, which was responsible for bringing approximately 3 kilograms of cocaine into Mesa County each month.
