PALISADE, Colo. - On Friday a driver involved in a single-vehicle rollover crash attempted to flee the scene, according to officials.
The accident happened sometime before noon on US Highway 6 in Palisade.
Witnesses say they drove up to the scene after the crash happened and saw the driver climbing out of the vehicle. They say the driver then asked them for a ride, and they said no. After that, the driver took off up the neighboring mountain.
Palisade Fire Chief Richard Rupp says when they arrived there was no driver and they proceeded to look for him. "The driver was just hiding up in the rocks up above and we finally located him and talked him to come down,. 'We need to check you out and make sure you're not injured.' Kept saying they're not injured, but we need to make that determination."
Paramedics determined the driver needed to be checked out at the hospital and transported him.
Marks on the road indicate speed was a factor in the crash.
