by KREX News Room

Mesa County - Sheriff's deputies are searching for a man they say assaulted a deputy and at least one other person Saturday morning and then was able to flee the scene.

On Saturday at about 10:00 AM, deputies were sent to the area of Lark Drive and Thrush Drive for a report of a person slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle there. When a deputy arrived, he contacted a male behind the wheel of the vehicle.

The man got out of the vehicle and then assaulted the deputy. The male, who was later identified as Thomas Allen Yates, was tased by the deputy, but was able to get away and back in his vehicle. As Yates sped from the area, he was involved in an accident when he hit a car, while he was leaving the area. Another assault happened when he fought with a male who was trying to stop Yates from leaving the area.

Yates is described as a white male, 46 years old, 5’11” tall, 210 pounds, brown hair, blue eyes, and has a mustache. Yates is missing three fingers on his right hand from an accident years ago. His vehicle was recovered and impounded and Yates fled on foot.

If anybody has information on the whereabouts of Thomas Yates, call Dispatch at (970) 242-6707
