Man Cited After Leaving Injured Dog on Mountain for 8 Days

by Associated Press
by Danielle Kreutter

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo.- Anthony Joseph Ortolani, the original owner of the German Shepherd abandoned on one of Colorado's highest mountains for eight days, is now being cited for animal cruelty.

Ortolani couldn't be reached for comment, but someone claiming to be him posted on an online climbing forum that he left "Missy" on Mount Bierstadt when a storm moved in.

He said he and another hiker had to get to safety and the dog had been badly hurt during the climb.

Ortolani is now being prosecuted for animal cruelty.

A group of hikers banded together earlier in the week, on the same online climbing forum, after a different hiker saw the injured dog on the mountain but was not able to carry her himself.

Many hikers went back in a group to rescue the dog, taking turns carrying her down the mountain in a backpack.

This is one sorry human being and a court should order him to never own another pet. What kind of person would even take a dog on a mountain climbing trip ?? I would of stayed with that beloved pet and died with it, if need be., if that was one of my beloved dogs.

he left her to starve, a slow painful death, while she waited patiently for the person she unconditionaly gave her loyality to...in the east we have Patrick the pitbull starved and thrown down a garbage shoot...and in the west you have Missy left to die because her feet got injured followning the owner she trusted....they both need to be an example for those that cannot speak for themselves..
