Man Accused of Attempted Murder Pleads to Lesser Charge

by KREX News Room

Grand Junction - A Mesa County man who was once accused of attempted murder is now pleading guilty to a lesser charge. In court February 21st, Tuesday morning, Nicholas Sanchez pleaded guilty to second degree assault in connection with a stabbing last year.

Officials say back in July, Sanchez and his brother arranged to meet two men near the Orchard Mesa Cemetery, to settle differences from a fight the night before. According to authorities, a knife was drawn during the encounter, and the two other men were cut and stabbed.

The victims tried to get away in a jeep, but the Sanchez brothers chased them, and the jeep eventually rolled over. Prosecutors say Nicholas Sanchez is facing anywhere from 2.5 to 8 years on the assault plea. He'll be sentenced in early April.
