Malware Threatens to Kick Thousands Offline

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- A malware attack that has infected some computers for more than a year may cause tens of thousands of Americans to lose their Internet connection Sunday night. The FBI is anticipating that as many as 277,000 computers could be affected worldwide.

The FBI says hackers are to blame for the malware attack, and that they caught the hackers last year. The FBI agents could not simply turn off the servers being used to control the computers, because victims of the attack would lose their ability to go online. However, it was only a temporary fix. The safety net system will be shut down at midnight.

To find out your computers is infected with the malware, head to www.dcwg.org.
