Majority of Long Island Remains Dark

LONG ISLAND, N.Y.- NewsChannel 5 reporter John Dias is visiting his family in Long Island, N.Y., and getting a first-hand look at the devastation that Sandy brought to the area.

Dias says 80 to 90 percent of Long Island was without power as of Thursday, and because so many people are filling their generators with gas, a limit may begin on how much one person can take home.

"The gas stations are just crazy. People are filling up, there's lines, and hours and hours of waiting in lines. Trees have been uprooted and fell on power lines. I just have never seen anything like this," said Dias.

Dias has spoken with residents who say they don't think they'll receive power until Thanksgiving.
