GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Parents and teens gathered at the Canyon View Vineyard Church Chapel Tuesday night to learn more about marijuana and how it can affect the teenage brain.

Around 100 people attended the monthly Mesa County Sheriff's Office class to find out how marijuana can be beneficial to some, but also how it can affect an under-developed brain.

Deputy Williams spoke on how a teenagers brain develops during adolescent years, and how the brain is affected by THC, which is the active ingredient in marijuana.

Deputy Williams also touched on how marijuana is beneficial to folks with cancer, and insomnia, and also acts as an appetite stimulant.

"I think education and knowing what you're up against, and what is in the community; the challenges that young people face, is important for us as adults to really be knowledgeable on because you can be really clueless," said Elaine Corder, attendee who brought her 14-year-old grandson.
