Lower Valley Fire District Expanding

FRUITA, Colo. A new Lower Valley Fire District fire station is scheduled to be complete in April 2014. On Monday evening a groundbreaking ceremony was held in Fruita at the future location.
The two-story operational facility will serve the district's career and volunteer firefighters. It will encompass bunk rooms, day rooms, living facilities and an enlarged apparatus space.
Planning for the station has been years in the making. The current facility is 40-years-old and lacks both space and resources.
Fire chief Frank Cavaliere, said, "To have something like this doesn't happen a lot in a firefighter's lifetime, so it is a path to our future, we do have a lot of young people on our organization currently. With that, hopefully with succession planning, they will be the leaders of tomorrow."
Josh Matheny, a Lower Valley District firefighter, said, "The new station does a lot for the fire department. It instills a little pride and ownership. It will be a good step forward for Lower Valley to have this new station."
A large portion of the project is being funded by a grant from the state. Another donation from the Fruita Thrift Shop will help make it a reality, plus financial planning in the annual budget. Anticipated completion is 2014.
