Low Stream Flows Impacting Outdoor Activities

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo.- Extremely low stream flows are impacting various outdoor activities in the Steamboat Springs section of the Yampa River.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife implemented a voluntary closure to all fishing from the upstream boundary of the Chuck Lewis State Wildlife area and downstream through the city limits of Steamboat Springs.

Officials say very low flows and high water temperatures can severely stress fish. They often die when caught, even if they are quickly released back into the water.

The city's three tubing outfitters also agreed to suspend their operations, after river flows became too low to easily float and protect the waterway's habitat and wildlife.
