GEORGETOWN, Colo.- Loveland Ski Area is set to open this week, beginning its 75th anniversary season.

A resort official says snowmaking crews have been hard at work creating one top-to-bottom run with an 18-inch base that will be ready to open Tuesday.

Nearby Arapahoe Basin opened last week with an 18-inch base, one intermediate trail and one lift operating.

The ski area was the first in Colorado to open for the season.

Other Colorado ski areas have set opening days for November or December.
