GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo.- A body was discovered along the Colorado River Wednesday afternoon.

The Garfield County Sheriff's Office was notified around 3:30 p.m. about a male surfing on a longboard who went into the Colorado River and had not resurfaced.

Deputies responded to the river at mile marker 121 along Interstate 70 between the Grizzly Creek and No Name rest areas, where bystanders were performing CPR.

The victim was transported to Valley View Hospital. He was later pronounced dead.

Officials say the victim was not wearing a personal floatation device at the time of the accident.
