Local Vigil Held for Sandy Hook Elementary Shooting Victims

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - More than a dozen folks beared the chilling temperatures Wednesday night to pay tribute to those lost during the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

It's a tragedy that has hit close to home for many people locally, regardless of their distance from Newtown.

Family and friends stood together to honor the students, teachers, and staff that were killed during the shooting, reading each of their names aloud and lighting a candle in their memory.

"I am so sorry for what they're going through. I could not imagine," said Josie Zambrano who organized the vigil. "I just had a little girl myself and that's what made it hit home and I just hope they get through it and that we're all here in Junction supporting them."

"Every time I see [the victims' families' faces] it's hard. I cry every time I see them because so many beautiful lives were lost because of this guy," said Katrina Fox, who came to the vigil.

A moment of silence was followed by several prayers spoken by the group.

The Grace Community Church in Montrose will also be holding a gathering on behalf of the victims.

It will be held Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of Montrose High School.
