Local Response to Government Shutdown
KREX News Room
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- No one is accepting the blame for the first federal government shutdown in seventeen years.
Both Republican and Democratic Party Chairs in Mesa County commented on the matter.
Chair of the Mesa County Republicans Lois Dunn said, "The emails I'm getting, the calls I'm getting, the people I'm talking to, nobody's sad here that it's on hold right now."
All spending that isn't considered mandatory has been stopped. This includes processing new local passports and furloughing workers at the Colorado National Monument.
The Chair of the Mesa County Democrats Jolynn Phillips said, "We all feel that it's very disappointing that something as drastic as a government shutdown has occurred."
Both Republicans and Democrats in Mesa County are confident that a deal will be worked out soon enough.
