Local Republicans Issue Statement On Jared Wright

by KREX News Room
by Amanda Brandeis

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. On Friday, Mesa County Republicans formally spoke out about House District 54 candidate Jared Wright.

Chairman of the Mesa County Republicans, Ruth Ehlers, read the statement to a full room at the Two Rivers Convention Center.

The statement first acknowledged that Wright's candidacy is the result of winning three elections with wide margins and that only he can decide whether or not he wants to continue in the campaign.

Ehlers than said, "That being said, most of us were unpleasantly surprised when details of Mr. Wright's work record and personal bankruptcy became public."

Additionally, "It's unfortunate that the voters did not have this information before the election took place. As a result, we find ourselves with a candidate working to restore his credibility."

The party said that if Wright wants to stay in, he will be the Republican candidate for House District 54. They also said that it's Wright's responsibility to address questions about his character and that he needs to reconnect with voters, the Republican Party and the executive board.

Add the Republicans' Brainard debacle to this list of bad choices and it becomes clear how bad the Republican Party is for GJ and Mesa County. Ruth Ehlers commented that voters didn't know about Jared Wright's legal problems before selecting him...well, voters didn't know about Rick Brainard legal problems and poor character before they voted on HIM either. She should make a statement of apology to voters about that.

It is interesting that Jared after working for the Fruita PD for 5 years, decides to run for office as a republican and then all of these "Tardy" issues come up and a Brady memo issued. Who's after him but a Government agency and the Liberal Daily Sentinel (who are still part of a larger Corporation and their job is to sell papers and make a profit) If he would not have ran, he would still be working there as a cop. Non of the issues that have arisen is a fire-able offence. As far as his finances, I think if one looked at the majority of College Students, Young Couples, small businesses one would find that many have substancial dept. That's the nature of this world and what runs the world economy. To those that balk at that, Let he/she who is with out sin cast the first stone. Jared is running against the machine that exists in GJ and I applaud him for it. I would rather have a regular person who has a few flaws in the House than a polished slick tongued Politico. We are all Human.

I like how it was fine for him to be a (allegedly) corrupt cop, but once he started aspiring for political office......then we have problems.

Ruth Ehlers is the leader of the MC Republicans and as the leader, is responsible for vetting candidates. She could have done a public records search, but she doesn't know the box on her desk with the TV screen is a computer.

Does anyone besides me see the humor in all of this? The Republicans go all out to put the pressure on Laura Bradford to resign over a DUI (maybe). They never supported Laura in the first place, she was a “came out of nowhere, nobody” who did the impossible by beating Bernie. She didn’t play ball with them so she had to go. Now they have their “fair haired boy” winning the spot on the ticket by getting through three elections only to find he has some really nasty stuff in his closet. Oops, what now? By law the Republicans can do nothing about it now except try to convince him to drop out so they can replace him. The fun will start if he doesn’t go along with them. What will they do? Withdraw support and let him swing in the wind? Or, continue supporting what would surely be a losing bid for the office? If by some miracle he pulled it off and won how effective would he be in Denver? (not). Then, if he steps down who will they replace him with and how can we be sure they would do

Did the republican party even bother to look at his character issues? Or did they assume that they can dump common criminals and other ethically challenged creeps onto the voters with no repercussions? Why is required to use "ethically challenged" instead of INCOMPETENT bordering on criminal" behavior? Like Meis, this man seems to have an "DON'T YOU KNOW WHO I AM?" attitude, and anything goes as long as the party will work diligently to cover the arrogance and stupidity of the party choices. The party needs a complete overhaul at the local, county and State level. It can only be done by the voters that attend meetings and DEMAND changes and removal from office of the leadership(if they can be called that).

What might at first glance appear to be political intrigue and a carefully worded statement should be seen for exactly what it is; an acknowledgement that Jared Wright is in the driver’s seat. He’s calling the shots regardless of the thinly veiled message that the Party Bosses might withhold party support. To do so would no doubt cause a GOP defeat in the HD 54 race and the Republican Party wall of invincibility in Mesa County would come tumbling down. In the dog eat dog world of politics weakness invites attack. No political party ever benefits from a prolonged war. The boss’s message is simple; they want to talk to Mr. Wright rather than his lawyers and they’re ready to sweeten the pot. Mesa County voters are not going to get what they deserve; what they will get is the best government money can buy. I hear Cabo San Lucas is nice this time of year, if you can afford it.
