GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Thousands of people have been forced out of their homes from the massive storm, Sandy, and the Red Cross on the Western Slope is joining national relief efforts.

According to local Red Cross officials, one Grand Junction volunteer has already been deployed to White Plains, New York.

Four other local volunteers are on standby to leave.
Red Cross officials say once the damage has been assessed, they may call on more of their volunteers to make the trip to the East Coast to help those in need.

The Red Cross has deployed more than 1,300 disaster workers from across the country to that region affected by the storm.
