GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- As most of us start off another work week, one resident is starting a new career here in the Grand Valley.

The Museum of Western Colorado recently hired Dr. Peter Booth as their new executive director and he says he couldn't be more excited.

“A museum career is wonderful,” said Dr. Booth. “I have been working in a museum most of my life and started in graduate school, when I volunteered at museums in Arizona. “

For Dr. Booth, traveling to Grand Junction from Oregon is more than just a move.

“It’s the state of my birth and it’s the state of my family,” said Dr. Booth. “So the opportunity to come back to the state of Colorado is a wonderful chance.”

The Denver native says he's excited to improve the museum’s exhibits and work to develop more tours.

Something the staff at the museum are looking forward too as well.

“Dr. Peter Booth brings energy and some different focuses,” said Kay Fiegel, executive director of the Museum of Western Colorado. “He has some great ideas and we welcome him and look forward to working with him.”

“I want to strengthen the community partnerships, both with the university, with the city and with the county,” said Dr. Booth. “The museum can’t fulfill the mission by themselves.”

A mission that Booth says is vital for the growing Grand Valley.

“It’s essential for a community to know its past so they can better plan for its future,” said Dr. Booth.

He adds that he’s worked with several museums that specialize in tours similar to the Museum of Western Colorado, so he's eager to combine both the staff and his strengths.
