Local Groups Feed Senior Citizens in Need

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Local organizations are coming together to feed senior citizens in need.

Along with Comfort Keepers, the Atrium of Grand Valley, a retirement community, hosted a Christmas Eve dinner on Monday.

Those 55 and older were invited to join in from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the spirit of togetherness for the holidays.

"We don't want seniors sitting at home by themselves just eating a dinner in front of the TV. We wanted to give them a nice hot meal and somewhere to come where they could actually be with other people their age. They can talk, have Christmas cheer, hear some nice Christmas music and [visit with] great friends to help them through the holidays," explained Eugene Geurink, Atrium's general manager.

"That can enjoy ham, turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn and a dinner roll. Just come in and eat on us for free," added Atrium's executive chef.

Comfort Keepers provided all the the food while Atrium chefs prepared everything. Atrium serves around 150 seniors daily.
