MESA COUNTY, Colo. - The Colorado Department of Education has awarded a local school a grant for start up and implementation needs.

Juniper Ridge Community School will receive funds totaling $600,000 over a three-year period.

"The grant was key to us opening this year. Without it, it would have been almost impossible. The grant allows us to buy supplies, such as furniture, desks and books for the kids," said Patrick Ebel, one of the school's founders.

It will also help with specialty training for teachers, because of the unique way the school implements curriculum.

Juniper Ridge is a tuition-free, multi-cultural charter school using arts and nature-based curriculum rooted in the Waldorf tradition.

It will serve Mesa County children (kindergarten through sixth grade). Officials have plans to expand grade levels as the school grows..

They are currently accepting enrollment. Visit www.JuniperRidgeSchool.org .
