GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Grand Junction's city council election isn't until April, but one local businessman is already announcing his candidacy.
Rick Brainard, vice president of business development with West Star Aviation, is gathering petition signatures for his run for the at-large seat on the Grand Junction City Council, currently held by local realtor Bill Pitts.
Brainard was also named Entrepreneur of the Year by Colorado Mesa University in 2010 and says there is a need for stronger economic development leadership at the municipal level.
"Number one on my list is economic development. It's what I've done my entire career. I really want to work on making business healthy here in Grand Junction. I'm a believer that if a businesses are healthy, the economy is healthy and the people of the community are healthy," explained Brainard.
Brainard currently serves on the Grand Junction Chamber of Commerce board, as well as the Community Hospital Foundation board and is a former board member of the Grand Junction Economic Partnership.
