GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The Grand Junction Lions Club handed on $23,000 in grants Wednesday to six different schools and organizations.

Among those receiving grants were the Western Slope Center for Children, Western Colorado Conservation Corps, Grand Valley Audubon Society, Marillac Clinic, and Pomona Elementary and Chipeta Elementary.

The six organizations receiving grants were part of a larger group of 14 that were granted money from the Lions Club this year.

The club raised nearly $98,000 from its annual carnival and is looking to raise even more next year.

"For the year of 2013 we intend on giving out approximately $125,000 depending on the success of the 2013 carnival," said James Giese, chairperson for the Community Betterment Board.
