GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- A local park is undergoing a new playground project thanks to a Great Outdoors grant.

Lincoln Park received a $250,000 grant to replace the old playground and make it handicap accessible.

Other features of the renovation include an arboretum trail, new concrete sidewalks and removal of the loop road off of 12th Street and Gunnison Avenue, which runs through the park.

"We are really excited about having a park that is going to be so accessible for all different types of people, all ages and all types of abilities. It's really going to be a showcase for our community," said Traci Wieland, recreation superintendent.

Park officials say the new playground will have a tree and nature theme.

They plan to have the new park installed by spring 2013.

The community is welcome to help with the design of the new playground at a meeting that will be held Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Lincoln Park Barn.
