GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- On Saturday, construction will begin on Lincoln Park's new arboretum.

The arboretum will identify several trees by posting signs with information about each type.

There will also be scannable QR codes for smartphones, which will pull up videos about the tree species.

Phone numbers will also be on the signs; the numbers will take callers to recorded information.

"People in this valley really appreciate the outdoor space that we have and our parks and recreation system, and I think we're just enhancing and upgrading them to give people what they want, and give them what they deserve," said Tom Ziola, Grand Junction park supervisor.

The project is being organized by Eagle Scout candidate Ryan Gibb.

Volunteers will be building more than 40 posts for signs starting at 9 a.m. and going until 1 p.m. Saturday.

Officials say any extra volunteers are more than welcome.
