GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - A Grand Junction City Council member is running for the District D seat she currently holds.
Laura Luke was appointed to the city's council in April 2011 after Bonnie Beckstein vacated the seat.
As mayor pro tem this year, Luke is seeking to hold her current position so that she can fulfill many city projects that have been in the works, including Horizon Drive and North Avenue business improvements and upgrades.
Besides working on projects local voters are interested in, Luke touts her financial background as a strong asset.
"I'm very interested in what goes on with our city budget. For the first time ever, every month we sit in quarterly meetings with all the department heads and we go over line by line, what's going on with that budget. We were able to do a lot more with less this year," explained Luke.
Luke also says her previous time in office gives her an advantage that has helped her better understand the inner-workings of the city to set policy for Grand Junction voters.
She is also a member of the Grand Valley Regional Transportation Committee.
Luke is opposed by Martin Chazen and Bonnie Beckstein for the District D seat.
