GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The last of the families evacuated from their homes due to the gas explosion on Tuesday were allowed to return to their homes Friday morning.

Officials from Xcel Energy and Grand Junction Public Works met with the remaining families left out of their homes at the Grand Junction Seventh-Day Adventist Church this morning, and informed them that gas levels had dropped to a safe level.

"The readings were very low, in many cases zero," said Greg Trainior, Director of Grand Junction Works and Utilities.

These remaining evacuees live between Mesa and Orchard on 7th Street.

As of Friday afternoon, all of 7th Street has been opened.

Officials with Xcel Energy will continue to monitor the gas levels in the area over the next couple of weeks.
