COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The slain executive director of the Colorado Department of Corrections is honored in a public memorial service.
A large crowd showed up at the the public memorial service for Tom Clements. It was held Monday morning at a church in Colorado Springs.
Gov. Hickenlooper as well as Mesa County Sheriff Stan Hilkey were present to pay their respects to Clements, who was gunned down at his home in Monument last week.
Family and friends laid him to rest in a private ceremony Sunday.
In a strange twist, Gov. Hickenlooper knows the primary suspect in Clements' murder.
Evan Ebel, 28, was reportedly in a white supremacist gang and was parolee. He's the son of Jake Ebel, a long time friend of Gov. Hickenlooper.
Ebel was killed after a high-speed chase and shootout with deputies in Texas on Thursday.
