DENVER-Police in suburban Denver say an officer killed at a crime scene was shot by another officer.

Thirty-five-year-old James Davies was shot early Friday morning after he and officers from several agencies responded to a report of shots fired in Lakewood. Police say he was in full uniform.

Davies is the first officer to be killed in the line of duty in Lakewood. He leaves behind a wife and two children.

Police officials say there was confusion when officers first responded, and numerous shots were fired. Three men were taken into custody and were outside the home when more gunfire erupted, and Davies was killed.
