GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Mesa County youth and the public were able to find out first hand how Grand Junction City Council candidates stand on various issues.

Kids Voting Mesa County hosted its Grand Junction City Council Forum Thursday evening for candidates running for four seats on the April ballot.

Tom Kenyon, Phyllis Norris, Laura Luke, Bonnie Beckstein, Martin Chazen, Harry Butler, Duncan McArthur, Robert Noble, Bill Pitts and Richard Brainard attended the event.

High school students from Fruita Monument, R-5, Grand Mesa, Collbran Job Corps and a home school helped run the forum.

Officials with Kids Voting Mesa County opened the event to everyone, giving voters of all ages a chance to learn more about their candidates.

"It's a great opportunity for kids to use democracy in action. It's really good for them to see adults who care about the process, take time out of their evenings to come out and hear live what the candidates had to say about certain things," commented Martha Graf, the Executive Director for Kids Voting Mesa County.

Candidates were allowed opening and closing remarks and then the chance to respond to prepared questions.
