WASHINGTON Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced on Wednesday that he will return back to Colorado and leave the department by the end of March.

Salazar has served Colorado and the nation for 14 continuous years as Colorado Attorney General, United States Senator, and as the 50th Secretary of the US Department of the Interior.

In a statement, Salazar said, "Colorado is and will always be my home. I look forward to returning to my family and Colorado after eight years in Washington.... I am forever grateful to President Obama for his friendship in the US Senate and the opportunity we gave me to serve as a member of his cabinet during this historic presidency."
