GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- As the first day of the New Year comes to an end, NewsChannel 5 took a look back on the top stories of 2012, a year where our country experienced many things from tragic mass shootings to catastrophic storms that shook the East coast.

After combing through social media, website views and viewer feedback here are the Top 5 local stories of 2012:

#5: Two Parachute men, Lester Van Waters Jr. and Michael Spell, are charged with aggravated kidnapping and the murder or missing Montana School Teacher Sherry Arnold.

#4: After being missing for nearly five years, the family of Paige Birgfeld has some form of closure this year as her remains were found in Delta County.

#3: An exclusive KREX story received national attention after a local teen quit his school's choir after realizing the translation of an Islamic prayer song they were asked to sing went against his beliefs. School District 51 stood by their teacher's decision.

#2: A community is continuing to mourn the death of William and Tyler Jensen, the two young boys who were left in a car on the Grand Mesa and died. No criminal charges have been issued.
