GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- A Mesa County jury is now deciding the fate of a former police officer and firefighter accused of sexual assault.

The jury began deliberating the case against 43-year-old Eric Janusz around 12:30 Friday afternoon.

Beforehand, the prosecution and defense went back and forth, making their closing arguments.

Prosecutors focused on a Facebook message between Janusz and the alleged victim, where he admitted to a sexual encounter that took place at the old Mesa State Police Department involving handcuffs.

The defense said that the prosecution was basing its case only on the claims of the alleged victim, who was upset when she found out that Janusz didn't want a relationship with her.

Janusz is accused of four counts of sexual assault on a child in a position of trust, and four counts of sexual assault on a child in a position of trust with a pattern of abuse.

NewsChannel 5 will bring you the verdict as soon as it's out.
