Judge Won't Ease Gag Order in Theater Shootings

DENVER (AP) - The judge in the Colorado theater shootings won't loosen his secrecy orders, as Aurora city officials had requested him to do.

But in an order made public Tuesday, the judge says it's up to Aurora to decide what information it can legally disclose.

City Attorney Charles Richardson says as a result, he'll continue to deny media requests for information. He says he'll consult with prosecutors on whether city employees can speak with researchers reviewing the emergency response.

The July 20 shootings killed 12 people in Aurora and injured 70. Within days, the judge presiding over court proceedings ordered records sealed and barred officials from publicly discussing the attack to avoid influencing potential jurors.

Aurora asked the judge last month to ease the order, saying some records had been disclosed in court.
