MESA COUNTY, Colo.- John Leane, an unaffiliated Mesa County commissioner candidate, held a press conference Tuesday at the Old Mesa County Courthouse to unveil his economic plan.

Leane met potential voters and highlighted the plan, which is specific to small businesses.

He proposed that the county reward each private business that hires at least four full-time employees in a year with $5,000. To qualify, those positions would have to pay at least $15 an hour.

Leane explained that at a maximum of $250,000, that would bring in at least 200 jobs and put even more money back into the economy.

Leane, who held the commissioner position from 1989 to 1993, is running unaffiliated because he says he believes the two-party system has failed and unique solutions to job creation are necessary.
