Jensen Requests Public Defender

by KREX News Room

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Heather Jensen, the mother charged with the deaths of her two young sons was in court Thursday morning for a review hearing.

Jensen filed a request asking the judge to withdraw her attorney Ed Nugent. Thursday morning the judge granted that request.

District Attorney Pete Hautzinger says the public defenders office has been appointed.

"Which is not surprising, I mean that's typical for most of our defendants who are held in custody. If someone is sitting in jail, they don't have a job, they don't have income, then that's what the
public defender is for; to represent people who are indigent and can't afford lawyers on their own. I anticipate the public defenders office to be taking it over," said Hautzinger.

The DA says switching lawyers this early in the case shouldn't delay the case by much.

Indigent? What has she done with the $50,000 she inherited the day her kids died from her husbands death a couple months ago?
