GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- A pedestrian tried to jaywalk along 29 Road near North Avenue Thursday night and got hit by an oncoming vehicle.

Grand Junction police say a female was jaywalking westbound along 29 Road when she got hit by a van traveling southbound.

Officials say the pedestrian may have fractured her pelvis and had a laceration on her head.

She was transported to St. Mary's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Grand Junction police say the pedestrian may be at fault for the incident because she did not use a crosswalk and did not yield to oncoming traffic.

"You have to keep in mind that it's for motorists. There is limited visibility, and they may not see you if you are crossing in the middle of the street, instead of a designated crosswalk. You have to be careful at night," explained Officer Duane Robinson from the Grand Junction Police Department.

Grand Junction police say the investigation is ongoing and alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the incident.
