MESA COUNTY, Colo.- Over the weekend more than 4,800 lightning strikes caused around 30 wildfires on the Western Slope.

Many of them are spot fires and are very small, but about a half dozen are larger wildfires.

Two fires popped up close to Grand Junction: the Wrigley Fire and the Long Mesa Fire.

Both of those fires are just a few miles away from one another. They're located east of the Utah border and south of the Colorado River in Rabbit Valley, in the Black Ridge Canyon wilderness.

At last report the Wrigley Fire is 100 percent contained at 72 acres. The Long Mesa Fire is 150 acres with no estimation of containment.

Activity over the weekend on these two fires was a little more evident than Monday. No smoke or flames could be seen from the Rabbit Valley Campground.

However, there were a lot of storm clouds in and around Rabbit Valley as well as the Grand Valley.
Fruita even had some reports of flooding. The storm also brought more lightning activity and gusty winds.
