GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The "Remember" memorial artwork in Grand Junction was officially commemorated during a illumination ceremony Thursday evening.
Dozens of local residents gathered in front of the Grand Junction Fire Administrative Building for the event.
Local artist Pat Olson created the piece which contains a piece of steel from the World Trade Center.
Grand Junction Fire Chief Ken Watkins and Chief of Police John Camper spoke to the crowd about the importance of both remembering and honoring those that lost their lives during the September 11th terrorist attacks.
"It will help us remember the horror of what occurred, but it will also help us remember the sacrifices that were made and continue to be made on our behalf," said Camper.
The Grand Junction Commission on Arts and Culture will place a plaque on the base of the artwork to describe the piece and its meaning.
